The results are in...

We've survived yet another long day of meets! Makena was a STAR last Saturday, swimming in 5 races during the first meet and 4 during the second! It seems as though she learned a little from last week's double meet and was really good about resting and eating in between her races (and meets for that matter)... and the pay off was big... she got a personal best in the back stroke by nearly a second-WOW!!

Times and races against
Rio Del Oro:
25 Yard Freestyle: 17.98
25 Yard Back Stroke: 20.41 (PB)
50 Yard Freestyle: 44.71

Times and Races against Rocklin:
25 Yard Freestyle: 18.24
50 Yard Freestyle: 43.43
25 Yard Butterfly: 20.04
We are so proud of how hard Makena tries during swimming. She is challenged by her coaches, who never let her do less than her best... and if they suspect it, they let her know. She takes advice seriously and implements what she has been told immediately. She is a wonderful teammate and pays attention to her friend's races and times... cheering them on when she is not competing against them! Double meets are draining, but two weeks in a row now, Makena has brought humor and enthusiasm to the group. I'm sure she will continue to impress us through the rest of the season!
Needless to say, we were all wiped out by the end of another very hot Davis day... and we are all looking forward to this mid-summer break!

A fish in the water...

Makena, listening intently to her coach, before her first meet in Elk Grove.

We're two weeks, and three meets, into SWIM SEASON 2009! Makena has proven to be the threat that all those other teams thought she would be as an 8 year old... she's stronger, she's smarter, and oh boy... is she faster! She, along with her friends Zoe and Brittany are staples in the "A relay"... apparently the place to be. Nearly blowing their competitors out of the water.
Makena is swimming butterfly in the medley relay, a stroke she thought she didn't like anymore... that is until she realized that she is really good at it! Even getting the, "she's really good... for her age," from one of the 11 year old girls at the first meet (that young lady was corrected by one of her friends... "No, she's just good," she said... so proud!).

Where there's one, there they all are...

Here are her times from her 2 last meets:
Against Dixon:

25 Yard Back Stroke: 21.35
50 Yard Free: 41.75
25 Yard Butterfly: 20.69

Against Gold River:
25 Yard Free: 19.27
25 Yard Back Stroke: 22.60
25 Yard Breast Stroke: 27.56
